Mech Mice Toy Proto!

I'm going to try and start posting more fun and exciting things from my day job at RocketSnail Games.
I'll do my best to post things that may not have already appeared on the RocketSnail blog :)

What better way to start than this really really REALLY cool sneak peek at our first prototype of a Mech Mice little figure. It's always been a big dream of mine to design a toy so working on this was definitely pure joy :D Now this was our first test so don't get too attached to this lil guy as he does have a number of issues. Most notably the ability to break really easy (I kinda, sorta broke his head off...twice...)

Regardless I still think he is a pretty awesome first test!

Hi everyone!

It's been a wild month including leaving my current job, going to Europe for a month and returning engaged to my lovely lady!

And if all that isn't exciting enough I am also starting a new full time position for the ever talented Lance Priebe at Rocketsnail games! It's definitely turning into one awesome year!

To celebrate I figured I'd post up a couple random illustrations I've done for Rocketsnail. These illustrations are concepts for the project I am currently working on called "Mech Mice". You all should check it out at rocketsnail.com !

Cue Card Warm-Ups

Lately I've taken to using the back of Cue Cards for quick practice sketching.
I find it easier to be loose and carefree while sketching on them as they are so disposable I'm not afraid of turning out a bad picture.

Here are some quick studies I did using Google 'street view' as my reference. (I recommend this to anyone wanting to practice buildings etc) As well as one sketch of my lovely girl working away.
I tried to spend as little time as possible on each card.

Hey Folks,
With October here it can only mean one thing, Halloween is near!
I love me some Halloween, so decided to start doodling these uber simple heads for something quick and fun which I could squeeze in between projects.
I want to keep them as simple/graphic as possible which is also a great challenge.

Through piles and buckets full of business I managed to draw up an Illustration Friday this week for the topic "Proverb". I decided to try something new and went for a more painterly look which was a blast to play with.

So I chose the proverb "Curiosity killed the cat". How that turned into a near naked girl hiding from a hungry zombie is a mystery to me as well!

Some Overgrown Monkeys!

A big aspiration of mine is to one day be able to write/illustrate my own children books.

I love coming up with bizarre and quirky stories filled with crazy characters... the only issue is actually writing them down!

So as of lately I have been working towards creating a pitch for one of my book ideas.

It has been a lot of fun trying to actually write a book! Though I think anyone will agree writing is equal parts fun and living nightmare... hmm well maybe a tad more nightmare...

I figured I'd post this test illustration I did for the book, since I don't think this page will really exist in the book anymore with some story changes (oh the process of writing...and yes rewriting)

Adventure Time! and Speed Paint Time!

I recently contributed to the Autumn Society's current tribute of the 'soon to premiere and amazing' Adventure Time! I created this to tide me over before the show comes out.

I'm not completely sure where the premise of this illustration came from... I think I just liked the idea of drawing a Pi King....or is it Pie King!? OoooOooo Whos to say... Either Way Finn and Jake are brave to take him on!

Aside from some visual Puns I also have a couple more Speed Paints to upload. They are a fun change of pace to do and I find nicely clear the mind.

Toronto Fan Expo!

This past weekend I attended my first Comic Con at Toronto Fan Expo and it was a Blast!

My good friend Dapper Dan Schoening and myself shared a Table in Artist Alley selling our Arts and hanging out with all the amazingly talented people surrounding us.
It was a great experience and I can't wait until the time rolls around again next year!
For the Con I created a limited run Sketchbook filled with 28 color pages o Art. I still have some copies leftover from the Con so if any of you are interested feel free to shoot me a message or email :) The books are $15 (+ Shipping).I uploaded two sample pages here and here to have a peak! I decided to put a little of my love for Little Golden Books into it's cover :)
I also figured it was about bloody time I uploaded some more Art on this Blog of mine!
So here is a series of 3 images I created for the Fan Expo and sold as prints. I entitled them my "Villainy Abound" Series.

Hello everyone and anyone who may still happen to cross paths with my poor deserted blog! I'm so sorry for my lack of exciting posts filled with art joys and tasty treats.
Time is one harsh mistress!
So rather then rambling various nonsense I figure I best shut my mouth and get with the art!

Here is a piece I created so I would have something to hang above my desk at worky. It's a neat one all framed up as each different square is inside it's own frame and then placed on the wall to match-up.

Why Hello there Disney

Hi Everyone!
What a crazy past 2 months it has been!
Some of you may know that for the past year I have been working freelance as an artist/animator in Victoria, well that is no longer the case as I recently got hired as an animator at Disney's Club Penguin in Kelowna BC! Woo!
It has been a surreal experience as well as very unexpected, yet definitely a opportunity I would be a fool to pass up! ...And I'm no fool! I started work out here just over a month ago now and it has been great so far. It's a really fun job with awesome people that make everyday a creative joy! I wish I could say more about it but alas tis top secret biz.
Unfortunately I haven't too much new art as the past several months my life have been overrun with various contract jobs. I do however have a couple pieces I just completed this past little while.

Home and Represented!

Hello All!
Wow what a non stop couple months it has been!
My trip overseas was really fantastic! Great sites, great foods and great people!
Though I think I can do without having a big angry monkey charging and screaming inches from my face ever again! I now believe monkeys are good times from a good distance!
The big news is it looks like I am soon to be a represented Artist in the children's publishing industry with Nicole Tugeau of the Tugeau 2 agency! Nicole has been great to talk with and I'm really excited to see what may come out of this working relationship!
And if that's not enough, I'm also moving in a mere couple days! My girlfriend and I found a very snazzy 2 bedroom loft that will work perfect as a studio/apartment. Exciting Stuff!
In the meantime I wanted to get the blogging going again!

So here is an image I chose as a Promo send out piece for my Rep. The picture is actually part of a larger piece of art which I am still working on finishing but will definitely upload it when done!
I also thought I'd upload a random monkey photo from my trip (no this is not the big angry monkey I encountered, just a medium sized lazy one)

Let the Year Begin!

Hi everyone!
I thought I'd start my first 08 post off with a look at the new business card I just got printed.
My idea was to have a couple versions of the card, each containing a different animal sporting a bow-tie and top hat. Unfortunately each variation would be charged as a completely new card so for now I introduce you to my Smoking Pig with a mustache card! I also including the 2nd contender, a happy bow tie Elephant.

Sorry for my lack of posts in the last couple months! Since I quit my previous job to work freelance I have been uber busy with some really fun projects! It has been a really great experience so far, and I look forward to posting some of the work on here when I can!
And if that's not enough my very lovely gal and I are heading off to Tokyo and Malaysia for a month at the end of this January Hurray!!

Time For Change

Hey Everyone I have some news!....some big News!
After a certain amount of thought and consideration I have pulled a rather big move and decided to quit my current job out here in Victoria. I'm not going to get into any of the "reasons" or "whys" but do feel this was the best move for me to make to continue growing and reach my aspirations and dreams. I currently have a couple exciting contract jobs on the go which will definitely make the job quiting less drastic on my finances. At the same time I plan on updating my skills, hopefully getting a animation demo reel pieced together, and further trying to get my foot in that children's illustration door. If any of you reading this have any ideas, tips or knowledge of job openings I would really appreciate hearing them! All of your comments and positive words really make my day!
In the meanwhile here is a picture I did with a character you may see again in another picture or two! Thanks for stopping by!
